#ThrowbackThusday: Joyce Bryant

It is quite safe to say that you haven't heard a woman belt out a song until you've heard this radiant woman. This is Jazz Singer and vocal coach Joyce Bryant.

Joyce Bryant was born on October 14th, 1928. Bryant's popularity soared between the late 1940s and early 1950s with dynamic vocal theater and nightclub performances.

Talk about a signature look; Bryant wore silver hair (and may I add, over half a century before it would become as popular as it is today to do so) and shapely mermaid style gowns. Her sultry voice and steamy performances inspired nicknames like "The Bronze Blond Bombshell", "The Belter", and "The Voice You'll Always Remember".

Following a brief religious absence from show business, Bryant returned to the spotlight as a vocal coach to train up other amazing voices and remains a major musical figure in jazz vocals today.
