#ThrowbackThursday: Ja'Net DuBois

This has to be one of my favorite photos of this lady. I was so excited when the blog Vintage Black Glamour shared it, yet it's a rare photo from before this lovely lady became a household name.

This is Ja’Net DuBois, a multi-faceted performer and a

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Ja'Net started her career on Broadway. This particular pic is from that time in her life, 1964 to be exact. It was taken from around the time where she was starring in the "Golden Boy” alongside fellow great, Sammy Davis. While on Broadway, she also starred in "A Raisin in the Sun".

Ja'Net then  moved onto TV roles, receiving the Peabody Award for her work in the 1969 CBS children's movie J.T. She made history with her role in the 1971 Love of Life by the 1st African American actress to have a regular role in a TV series.

However, Ja'Net is most well known for her role as "Willona Woods", the original gossip girl in Good Times.what many people don't know is that she not only composed, but sang the theme song, "Movin' On Up", for another popular series, The Jeffersons.

She is truly an enduring beauty inspo. Ja'Net has had regular roles and acting success ever since. Talk about moving on up. Happy ThrowbackThursday.
