Gucci makes Blackface convenient and luxurious

Another luxury design house finds itself in hot water. Nope, it’s not D&G or Prada, this time it is the millennial favorite, Gucci. Social media users after some questioned its recent “Balaclava knit top black,” priced at a mere $890.
This knitwear travesty was actually pointed out by Twitter user Rashida who shared the following,

A sweater that literally makes Blackface so easy. Just think, instead of slathering all of that black paint on, you could just spend $900 and slide into this luxuriously racist sweater. How convenient.
The sweater, no longer available on the Gucci website (suggesting that the label realizes its faux-pas and will be issuing its “our intent was never...” press release shortly) is black and features a balaclava turtleneck featuring bright red lips where a mouth opening on a normal balaclava would be and does resemble the Blackface trope.

With this infraction being only one of the numerous offensive acts to emerge from European fashion brands and houses very recently, many who are paying attention are starting to wonder if these acts are merely coincidental, attributed solely to a lack of diversity and inclusion (because you need both) in these brands leadership, or if these acts are actually purposeful for the sake of publicity. Whatever the case, after the dragging it took on social media, glad people of color let this label know that racism is certainly not Gucci.
