The Urban Girl's Guide to Lilły for Target

Lilly Pulitzer wasn't my cup of tea. The bright colors, the overwhelming patterns, it was like Vera Bradley for clothing. Bright patterns, what I thought were silly prints that were overpriced and usually for the over privileged I would see when I would go to work out in East Hampton for the summers. No shade to Ms Lilly herself, just to some of her wearers. In fact this post was going to be a Lilly Pulitzer bashing post.

However, I have to recant some of those statements.

True, I STILL feel that the typical Lilly wearer could be over priveleged mean girls, as I saw when some memes about Lilly for Target rumors surfaced and these Lilly girls had mean things to say created some very mean memes about people who would be purchasing Target's version of their beloved pattern wear. (This one in particular.)

In fact, it is because of those cyber bullies that I did recant and change this post and why I encourage you, sweet reader to go and purchase Lilly for Target. (After all, you all know how I feel when Fashion isn't for all and when style is used as a platform to belittle and insult those who cannot afford the pricier versions.)
What I will say is that the Lilly I encountered on the beaches as opposed to the Lilly of the Hamptons and the Lilly from Target are quite different. Lilly for Target is what I would describe as Lilly Pulitzer's cool, slightly edgy, but still very sweet grand daughter. Target's version, while still featuring multicolored pieces, offers more pieces that focus on 1 or 2 main colors. The patterns do not overwhelm. The lacy details remind me less of a doily on granny's living room table and feel more of a summery, even slightly sexy. The cuts appeal to modern taste and sensibilities. And, unlike previous Target collars, Lilly for Target features a plus line available on its online stores.

So yes, support Lilly for Target if you like. The pieces are lovely additions to your summer wardrobe, comfy, cute, and ladylike (and it will make all those nasty Lilly girls mad.) Lilly Pulitzer for Target is scheduled to be released on April 19th. Here are the pieces that are on my radar:
