The Update: 2000-2010 Trends Redone
(Photo from We Heart It)
What we won't be talking are the jeweled word tees and lower than low jeans. Instead, let's focus on the trends with such staying power, they either have resurfaced in a more contemporary version or never really went anywhere.
Trends with Staying Power:
Cargo Pants- With a tapered leg and slouchy top, these cargos are a far cry from the 00s version
Mini Skirts- Unlike the micro denim minis that ruled this decade, this mini is suede or leather and is more business than pleasure
Boyfriend Blazers- Blazers just aren't going anywhere, ever
Destroyed Denim- Neither are these. But what is are the super low, thong showing versions of a decade ago. This rise is mid to high and is a grown tapered version.
Sky High Wedges- Monochrome wedges are the comfy step between high heel and full on flat. Yeah, definitely staying around.
Mary Janes- Speaking of flats, the updated Mary Jane is a shoe with some 'tide. Pointed toe, super thin strap, and now in an unconventional color or pattern.
Cocktail Rings- Unlike last decade, most of us are old enough to actually have a cocktail now, and old enough to know not to wear these everywhere, all the time like we used to.
Slip On Sneakers- Once the trusted shoe of high school skaters, these shoes have gotten a chic makeover, using animal prints, embossed scales, and luxurious colors.
Trends that Returned:
Beaded Layer Bracelets- The updated bracelet is adorned with tiny charms and wore in bulk instead of alone like in years past.
Long Denim Skirts- This skirt suddenly got a major bath in cool. A curve hugging denim skirt can be dressed up or down with ease.
Gauchos- Not only for yoga anymore, these pants resemble more of trousers than the pants we all wore to the beach or to PE.
Striped Pants- Strategically thin black striped pants look less like Beetlejuice (or Robyn Thicke) and more instantly chic
Saucony- Rebounding is a major way, these sneakers have made a glorious return in monochrome coolness.
Bandanas- The hot trend of the moment. It's a headband. It's a scarf. It's a bracelet. It's a super cool and inexpensive way to rock the 00 trend.
Ponchos- Now called blanket coats, the poncho has become completely glamorous
Double Layer Tanks-Remember when everyone was wearing that really too sexy tank beneath a more approvable tank? Yeah, we don't do that anymore. Now we wear one seemingly like two, tank.
