Real Life Reclaimed: Healthy Food and Community Building with Bryn And Danes

This weekend, I had the chance to hang with Bryn Davis (@bryn_davis) of Bryn+Dane's (@brynanddanes), a "healthy fast food" shop here in the Philly area.

Now I have to be honest, I have experienced both delicious but overpriced healthy fast food, and the opposite, affordable but honestly gross healthy fast food. Bryn and Dane's takes the best of both worlds and blends them together to make something people actually want to eat at a price point that doesn't make healthy eating a luxury.

What I appreciate most was the chance to talk to Bryn about everything; from what healthy fast food even is, equity, food deserts and white saviors vs white allies. Bryn possesses an awareness about

community empowerment that a lot of his contemporaries don't.

He knows that barging into communities and expecting their trust, especially communities of color which are currently experiencing gentrification (or as I call it, colonization 2.0) at an alarming rate. Bryn addressed this in a straight shot: he plans on growing relationships with people of that community, beginning with ambassadors from these, to address their community concerns and how he and Bryn and Dane can come along to assist.

He has an incredible vision for community partnership and giving access to healthy and wholesome food for all people, regardless of ethnic or economic status.

Now that was enough for me to buy in until I tasted the food. Chile! That Corn Dog they have that is made from only plant-based protein is LIFE! I almost ate Earl’s (sorry babe). My other favorite was their Blue Balls Bowl and that Green Smoothie. Not just pretty to look at but yummy too. Hooked! Who wouldn’t want to eat better when given options like this?

They currently have 4 locations open in the Philly area with a 5th coming to Center City and others globally coming soon. Grateful to have connected.
