Amy Cooper's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

This is a story all about how, White People weaponize police and wow, just take a minute and listen to me, I’ll tell you how it all points to White Supremacy.

Amy Cooper, a White woman, called the police after Christian Cooper, no relation, a Black man after he asked her to put her dog on a leash in New York City.

“Ma’am, dogs in the Ramble have to be on the leash at all times. The sign is right there,” Christian told Amy, but she still refused to leash her dog.

Christian, an avid bird watcher, started to record Amy after she allowed her dog to run leash-less through an area known as “the Ramble”, a Central Park location where numerous wildlife can be seen. Signs are posted throughout the area, including one a short distance from Christian and Amy.

“That’s important to us birders because we know that dogs won’t be off-leash at all and we can go there to see the ground-dwelling birds,” Christian told CNN. “People spend a lot of money and time planting in those areas as well. Nothing grows in a dog run for a reason.”

Rather than leash her dog, Amy instead chooses to argue with Christian, escalating to what happens next in this video, which shows Amy calling the police. She threatens Christian, saying “I’m going to tell them there’s an African-American man threatening my life.”

The NYPD said they received no complaints and made no arrests.

Christian posted his video of the incident on Facebook was posted again to Twitter by Christian’s sister, Melody. the video is now viral, being condemned across social media as just another example of White supremacy using Blackness as a conviction of crime and weaponizing the police against Black Bodies. Police Brutality at this point is well documented against both Black Men and Women, EMT Breonna Taylor being one of the latest to succumb Police Brutality when Louisville Officers ran a botched warrant serve to her home, creating a fire-fight, and killing Breonna as she was preparing to go to sleep.

Referring to racial tensions, the high-profile fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, the 25-year-old black man who was simply out jogging around his own neighborhood, when he was killed by two known White Supremacists in February.

“We live in an age of Ahmaud Arbery, where black men are gunned down because of assumptions people make about black men, black people, and I’m just not going to participate in that,” Christian told NBC.

Following the video going viral, Amy Cooper’s employer, Franklin Templeton, an investment firm, suspended her while they investigate the incident,  saying on Twitter that “we do not condone racism of any kind.

Amy has since whipped out the white tears and apologies, saying, “I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family.”

"I’m not a racist. I did not mean to harm that man in any way," she said, emphasizing that she didn’t mean any harm to the African American community.

Despite telling a Black mean that she was going to call 911 on him, telling police that she was being threatened by a Black man, she's not racist? Sounds about White...

The dog has been surrendered to the Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, where Amy adopted it a few years ago, after the numerous allegations that she choked the dog while calling the police, which can be seen on video.

“The dog is now in our rescue’s care and he is safe and in good health,” the organization wrote on Facebook.

According to Amy, the entire incident made her realize that not everyone has the “luxury” of thinking of the police as a “protection agency.” However, from her actions, many are calling BS, including Christian. “I videotaped it because I thought it was important to document things,” Christian told CNN. “This woman thought she could exploit that to her advantage, and I wasn’t having it.”

With many of these false reports made to law enforcement, some resulting in serious harm or even death of Black people, Amy Cooper falls into the pantheon of White people weaponizing law enforcement against Black people.

This writer is happy that this time, everyone survived.
