Forget Cuffing Season: It's Candle Season (Black Owned Candles for Every Occasion)

Cuffing season can be a huge disappointment. But you know what is not? A good candle. Seriously. When was the last time you were disappointed by a beautiful fragrance wafting through your space? See.

So I have compiled a list of candle companies I am currently crushing on. Each of them is Black-owned and guaranteed to bring joy and delight. Thank me later.

Terminal B
I was fortunate enough to receive a beautiful collection of candles from Terminal B and my home smells like different destinations. A trip is literally a match flick away. Founded in 2020 by Fay & Chris Breedlove, the brand Terminal B is an olfactory homage to travel, something we couldn't do much of amidst the pandemic. Their scents are inspired by traveling, each one is designed to help your senses take flight. Speaking from experience here.

Let's talk about the very ethereal dreamy candles of Your Sunday Shop. These weekend-inspired candles feature calming scents and soothing fragrances which make them ideal after a busy day or to light late Sunday morning.

Gavin Luxe has been my go-to for candles since last summer. Created by My McCarthy, Gavin Luxe is a small but beautiful way to normalize everyday luxury. And that is reflected in each of the scents she has so lovingly created.

If you looking for a candle for the perfect chill-out session at your home, Blk Essence is the candle you may want to look toward. Their Sunday Morning candle is their best seller for a reason. But I am personally a fan of Sweetest Thing. They also feature a wood wick for all of you folks who like a little crackle with your candle.

Harlem Candle Co.
If you're looking for something sultry to go along with your favorite jazz, then Harlem Candle Co. is your go-to. Owner Teri Johnson created candles inspired by the Harlem Renaissance (I know right! How cool!), naming the candles after famed names from the period, including Ellington, Langston, and Josephine.

One of my first Black-owned candle purchases was from LIT Brooklyn. First of all, any candle company with "Lit" wordplay has to be dope. Created by founder Denequa Williams, this well-loved candle brand never disappoints. But make sure you stay up on their restocks as Lit Brooklyn regularly sells out!

Posh Candle Co.
One of my FAVORITE candle companies! If you're looking for a candle that can bring the fun and sassy, look to Posh Candle Co. This West Coast brand is as fun and cool as its birthplace. With candles bearing names like
"Black Girl Magic", "Bad and Bougie," and "F*ckboy Repellent,"  (a personal favorite) creator Tay Watts infuses all the western urban cool into each hand-poured batch of these 100 percent soy-based candles.

Southern Elegance Candle Co.
For my nostalgic folks who love the austral feel of the south, check out Southern Elegance. Founder and CEO D’Shawn Russell created a candle brand inspired by her childhood in the south. For a quintessential southern feel, this company even put some of their wax wonders in mason jars. If you are souther or appreciate beautiful scents inspired by such southern delights as Carolina Pine and Sweet Tea, Southern Elegance is your go-to.

Who else is all geared up for a great cuffing candle season? Which ones are in your cart?
